Job Description
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and communication development
  • Knowledge of and skills in best practice instruction specific to various disabilities
  • Knowledge of typical speech, language and hearing development
  • Knowledge of and skills in administering, scoring and interpreting communication assessments
  • Knowledge of speech-language disorders and rehabilitation
  • Strong understanding of phonological and phonemic awareness as prerequisite for literacy development is preferred
  • Knowledge of the CSE process, regulations, and required documentation
  • Knowledge and understanding of Medicaid documentation and procedures for billing
  • Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior
  • Knowledge all understanding of Multi-tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS)
  • Skills and abilities in organization, time management, record keeping and attention to detail
  • Ability to utilize software/platforms for instructional purposes and record keeping
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting
  • Ability to interact positively, effectively and empathetically with parents, students, staff, and administrators

Ability to maintain confidentiality

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide speech/language services for district students;
  • Identify those students in need of remedial help for communication needs;
  • Assess and support students for intervention, initial placement, progress monitoring, and/or re-evaluation purposes;
  • Write evaluation reports
  • Review, create and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Maintain records of tests and files pertaining to direct therapy and consultation
  • Comply with all Medicaid requirements, including obtaining written Medicaid consent from parents of all students served and timely filing of claims that meet Medicaid standards;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language Impairment and support with IEPs for students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or according to requirements;
  • Write progress notes for the students as specified on their IEPs;
  • Participate in team meetings;
  • Provide consultation to classroom and special area teachers when such information is vital to their teaching areas;
  • Confer with parents about the student’s needs; explain the speech program and involve them in therapy when necessary;
  • Assist in any special school programs such as Pre-Kindergarten testing, etc.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students;
  • Act as a resource for all matters concerning speech, language and hearing in the school, Committee on Special Education and to the school board.
Job Qualifications

NYS Certification Required

CFY (Clinical Fellowship Year) or CCC (Certificate of Clinical Competence)
