Application Procedure

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To work with students, school personnel, parents and others as groups:

  • to assist in programs of in-service training for school personnel to promote mental health in the classroom and to increase the competency of school personnel in dealing with problems of learning and adjustment.
  • to assist in planning programs of parent education and shall work with such organizations as the PTO/Parent's Teams to promote a close and harmonious relationship between the school and the home.
  • to endeavor to keep abreast of pertinent developments in education and psychology through reading, attendance at professional meetings and direct contacts with other psychologists in order to function as a source of information on current educational and psychological research on new developments in the area of specialized services to school children.
  • to carry out such surveys, data collections, and research projects as the administration may request or approve.
  • to assist in developing educational programs for students with disabilities and children with special needs.

2.  To work with individual children:

  • to use appropriate observation and evaluation techniques to diagnose learning difficulties and adjustment problems
  • to advise school personnel with regard to the child's placement and program and shall be available for consultation in helping school personnel and parents of children in the district schools to deal more effectively with the learning difficulties of individual children.
  • to maintain close liaison with agencies and specialized personnel in the community (e.g., pediatricians, remedial reading specialists) who may have occasion to deal with educational or adjustment problems of children in the district schools and provide such assistance and reinforcement as will contribute to the child's better adjustment and development.
  • to consult with teachers in planning remedial and intervention programs and supports as well as recommendation for dealing with (Response to Intervention, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Positive Behavior Intervention Support, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, etc.). To participate, to limited extent, in remedial work with individual children and refer those who cannot be dealt with in school to qualified agencies or specialists outside of school.
  • to provide counseling and support services to students as needed and assigned.

3. Other:

  • to be a member of the Committee on Special Education.
  • to attend all Committee on Special Education meetings.
  • to perform any of the above and related duties as directed and /or required by the immediate supervisor.
  • to perform additional related duties as assigned by the Director Special Programs and/or the Building Principal.
